Garbled text on news output

Postby Amon » Sat Jan 24, 2004 8:10 am

Hi!! new here and hate for my first post to be a bug. It might not be a bug but at the moment this is the best place to post it.

The script installed perfactley. Everything is ok, the only problem is that when I submit/build news, the output on my webpage is as follows.

==============================================
Heavy Construction``xAmon``xThe Website is under heavy construction at the moment. So any of you guys who have found your way here, past the index page, sorry! but not much here at the mo. ``xEpZuAkZVyAUojOqmUI``x1074956369``x(default)

=============================================

I did the above as a test post to see if all was well. Notice that there is garbled text at the bottom of the post and also a bit at the top beside my name.

I'm using the current version of coranto v1.22 and I'm hosted on a non windows server, "Unix/linux" i think. My cgi-bin is below the actual directory where my web files are stored for the public.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)
:D

Hi Amon and welcome to the world of Coranto! Sorry to disappoint you but this is not a bug, this is a classical newbie misstake... ;-)

You see, the file you are including in your shtml-page is the newsdat.txt file which acts as Coranto´s database. So the text is formatted for internal use in Coranto and thus looks a bit strange if you are trying to use it as output... The file you want to include is (if you havn´t changed the default) called news.txt which contains the real output formatted in the way you specify your style.

Here is another thread discussing the issue further: http://coranto.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6197

BTW, if this is brand new installation I would recomend you to upgrade to the 1.23 version of Coranto instead. Can be found at http://corantobeta.gwe ilo.org
Yes, I am still around...
