Grouping profiles/styles/etc...

Postby sqyttles » Tue Sep 30, 2003 12:31 am

More recently, Coranto has been used to power larger and larger wbe sites. These sites often have many profiles, categories, and news styles. Seeding through 50 or more profiles can be very time consuming and confusing.

I feel that in order to remedy this problem, the ability to create groups (or folders) to place these profiles, styles, categories, and whatever else should be built into the core. Now, this wouldn't have any changes to the database or anything like that; it would be merely superficial.

If this idea has already been attempted or done, please tell me.

I suggested this a while ago but it didn't get added, hopefully it can happen soon :)

Please explain more.

I understand the utility of being able to group more profiles in addons like PartialBuild.. But what else would you use a "super-profile" for?
Editing needs to be individual anyway
Coranto addons:
* GuestPost, one click guestposting
* MoveIt!, Advanced Backup and site transfer
* PartialRebuild, CPU-friendly enhancement of FullBuild
* URLColumn, URLs for multiple Categories/Profiles
* Tickit!, Javascript News Tickers/Faders for Coranto!
* AddonEnabler, enables or disables single, multiple or all addons in one go
* SubmitMultiple, post consecutive news in an automatic loop!
* RSSAdvanced, RelatedNews ....

Ok um here goes:

when you click on profiles you come to a set of groups named like:
News
Comments
Alpha Site
Beta Site
etc...

then click on the profile Alpha Site which takes you to the following:

Profile 1
Profile 2
Profile 3
(these are your profiles - named differently of course ;) )

Same could happen for styles and categories, just to make it easier to find what you need when you have a lot of them.

Hope that helps clarify it.

Yep, that's exactly what I meant.

It's just a way of organizing a long list.

The sorting features Facelift had would be nice as well to at least organize them better...

It works a little, but it's still a pain; sort of like looking for a specific thread in a forum that's alphabetically arranged. Everything gets lost in a jumble.

So would this grouping simply be a cosmetic thing for Edit Profiles?? If so, this wouldn't be overly hard to do i think.

Just allow the user to create 'profile groups' and then assign each profile to a group. Profiles not assigned to a group could simply be displayed in the normal alphabetical order, after the grouped ones.
Stuff I'm working on:
- nothing

Yep that's spot on Lawrence :) Could the system please be added to styles and categories as well?

Anyway could I also draw your attention to this:
Me from another thread wrote:I think coranto filters what it saves because the good old template editor edits out code too (screwing up php code ). I think an option in Coranto should be to set an option to not have code in styles/templates/posts be filtered. And set user persmisions on it.

Do you think this would be possible?
