Addon Annoyances

Postby Pirate Elf » Sat Sep 27, 2003 10:02 pm

I know a few of ou are aware of this but I thought I would point it out. WE have broken links on the addons section. We are still listing addons that no longer work, have no user support, and the addon authors went the way of the dinosaur. Many of these addons are from the early days before the true flexability of coranto stood out (note: User Pages 0.1, Song Beta 1, etc)

I say it's time we have a fall cleaning and go through and fix all the links and/or delete the addons that are no longer support. Make it a subsection if neccessary under the addon forum (Outdated Addons) and new users/coders could take over the direction of these addons.

Just a thought

A good idea! :-)

Should be done at the same time as the minimum/maximum-field for supported version Coranto per addon is implemented at the addon-section.

And when we discuss broken links, why should we rely on the addon-authors domain to be up? As it is now alot of addons are located elsewhere which makes some of the links bound to be broken over time, shouldn´t they be physically located at coranto.gweilo.or/addons/ ?

The addons submit page on the coranto backend here support the uploading of the addon itself to coranto.gwe ilo.org
but most addon authors like myself prefer to use our own bandwidth and stuff rather than tax on to dragn's

also i think for some it's much easier for them to release minor updates as they just have to upload that file and overwrite it on their own server space.

Yeah, I can understand that point of view faithless, but then there should be quicker actions taken of broken links. You know, the discussion elsewhere about the decay of the site... ;-)

oh well. perhaps we could ask dragn if he wants to set up a script that checks the links ever so often.
but broken links don't happen that often. only once or twice in a long while. and usually they get reported real fast and fixed.

so that moots the point of having a link checker really

I agree with you faithless,it should be enough to just check the links from time to time, and as Pirate Elf was pointing out from the begining this is should be a good time! ;-)
