Argh... SelectPic Woes...

Postby WCMessenger » Wed Nov 07, 2007 6:03 pm

Just can't wrap my head around this for some reason, been using Coranto with MultiPart and SelectPic for years, though in the past it was Coranto v1.02. Now rebuilding a site in Coranto v1.25.1 utilizing MultiPart 1.59 (Build 25) and SelectPic 1.31.

I'm trying to get a photo to appear on the index page of the site, using the following code in the Style:

<img src="<Field: CustomField_Photo>">

However, when viewing the site, the photo doesn't appear, just the following code:

http://www.mysite.com/bindata/photos2/photos/photo.jpg">

Everything else built into the style is working (it also has captions and whatnot, those are fine, just not the photo. The URL listed is correct as it display the photo in a separate browser window (minus the "> but at the end)

I just can't wrap my head around this for some reason, maddening as I've done the exact same thing with other Coranto installs several times in the past. Where am I missing the appropriate setting?

TIA

Shouldn't you be using <FilePath: CustomField_Photo> ?

Eh, just tried that, no such luck, it still just writes out the full URL to the photo.

Thanks, though!

Go to Administration -> Change settings and check that " Automatically Link URLs?" is set to "No".

If that doesn' work, please post your style.

Yep, tried that, too; it was initially off, and I have been toggling it off and on.

Here's the style:

<table width="260" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
<tr>
<td align="left" valign="top" class="FPfeatureHeadline"><Field: Subject></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left" valign="top"><img src="../images/transparent.gif" alt="WCMessenger" width="16" height="8" /></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left" valign="top"><img src="<FilePath: CustomField_Photo>"></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left" valign="top" class="FPfeatureByline">Messenger photo by <Field: CustomField_Byline></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left" valign="top" class="FPfeatureCutline"><Field: Text></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left" valign="top" class="FPfeatureLink">More photos...</td>
</tr>
</table>

Thanks!

Nothing wrong there as far as I'm concerned (you should be consequent in closing your img tags with />, but that's not the problem here).

Could you post the HTML source that is output by this style as well (the one that only prints the URL to the image)? Or, if you prefer, provide the URL to a page where I can see it in action. I would like to see the HTML that your style produces.

http://beta.wcmessenger.com/, look for the spot where it says, ahem... "Fireman Pinup"

Everything else works on it just fine, just not the photo.

Thanks, SrNupsen!

Notice this part in your HTML source:

Code: Select all
<img src="/<a href="http://www.wcmessenger.com/bindata/photos2/photos/Firemen_Pinup.jpg">http://www.wcmessenger.com/bindata/photos2/photos/Firemen_Pinup.jpg</a>">

That is Coranto replacing your URL (the URL to the image) with <a href etc.

Are you really REALLY sure you have toggled this behaviour off AND done a full rebuild? You might try opening and resaving the news item in question after toggling parse links off.

Or, to be really clear:

1. Turn "Parse links?" OFF in Administration -> Change settings
2. Open your newsitem and re-save it.
3. Do a full rebuild.

"Fireman pinup"? :shock: :lol:

Hmmm. Yup, done all that, toggling it off, doing a full rebuild, submitting a new item, etc etc etc. still to no joy. I know that code there isn't right, just need to examine what's causing it...

Thanks!

Last resort:

1. Make a backup of your newsdat.txt file
2. Open it using a text editor. Look for the actual news item, and see how the image URL is stored there.

Sometimes when you fiddle about with parse HTML settings the item is saved in newsdat.txt WITH the <a href part, making it hard to get rid of.

Alternatively, you can set up a test user for me and PM me the login details. I'd be happy to investigate it.

Hmmm. Ok, I've checked, rechecked and triple checked my settings, and they all seem to match my previous Coranto installs (albeit v1.02). Perhaps a conflict with another addon? Hmmm... I'll try PMing you. Thanks!

In the settings for the field CustomField_Photo, "Parse links?" was set to "Yes". I should have told you there were two places to check, but I thought CustomField_Photo was a file upload field and not a single-line text field.

This has some consequences. In order to make it work, I changed your style so that it uses <Field: CustomField_photo>, as <FilePath> is for file upload fields. In addition, I turned the aforementioned "Parse Links?" OFF for that field.

To update your other news items, you must modify them, insert a picture by clicking (as you can't edit the text field directly) and then resave.

We aim to please. Now don't forget to delete my account ;)

AHA! That's it, a new entry under News Fields! That wasn't available in my previous installs of v1.02!

Thank you so much for all of your help SrNupsen!
