CONTEST! AN IMAGE for Main page / Welcome page intro text!!!

Postby kriko » Sun May 22, 2005 9:21 pm

I hereby announce a contest between everybody able to design something. If any of you comes up with a satisfyingly better welcome page image than the current one then they will be awarded with the prize of immortality (cash it out from SrNupsen).

We really need your help, so please come and submit what you think is best.

Requirements:
* Suits with the design
* No copyrighted material used
* Size approx. 270x270px (may be resized later on, size doesn't matter that much as long as it looks good on the page).

PS: The decision making process will be subjective.

It will be used to replace this:

Please note that whomever provides the winning image must provide any source images used in its creation to me to confirm that they own copyright to those images. They must also declare to me that they own copyright to all source images, and grant me a permanent, non-exclusive, transferrable, royalty-free license to use those images in any media, for any purpose related to the promotion of Coranto.

Thanks. :)

I was thinking something like this:

Only better. Does anyone else like the idea of a leaf-masked view of a screenshot of the CMS? There could be multiple screenshots of different themes and pages of Coranto, and these could be randomized on page load. They'd all be shown under the same mask, so there would be a feel of continuity even with the randomness.

BTW, the leaf used for a mask in this example is just the one from the logo, screenshot mine taken of install using the Supa Fresh theme by Bit Bucket Heaven.

I like that idea. Especially the randomized part.

Y'know, I was just going to sit down and hammer something out, and I saw Psy's leaf concept above. Very strong. A good dynamic logo begins there...

Where will this be used?

Please do still go ahead and make something of your own - it may be even better, or we may be able to combine the best elements from all the ideas. The more suggestions we have, the better. :)

Yeah, I'm not much of a Photoshop pro, so if anyone else wants to run with the leaf-masked-screenshot idea (or anything else), feel free. I'll try to make a bunch of variants on that theme, regardless.

Edit: some more examples (I like how the current image connects directly to the horizontal rule above it, this leaf orientation could be aligned the same as the current one and look like it is growing off of the rule. Or something:

I vote for the leaf masking with shadow , but the same orientation as
the top one without the mask, and add the stem, its a nice touch.

oh and I find the shadow to hard, dark and a little to distant it seems to
loose just a bit of the proximity with the site and contests the light scheme
being so dark :)

this is imo of course, and meant as contructive critisism, not telling you
or anyone how to do things ;)

oh and what if you dial in a little gaussian on the masked content, as
sharp it seems to pulls much detail on the content but in this case it would
be an artistic illustration that would blend in with the site design and
content without making a statement instead leaving a space for
the visitor to discover a connection with the image and Coranto.

Maybe like this, not for submission of course just for illustration.

Image

you could ajust the hue saturation colors to fit better and work on the
blur, I could see larger underlying image and some noise into the blur
to add more texture to the overall masked content.

Me too, actually. :) Anybody got a moment to make a screenshot of what that'd look like on the front page?
