New design suggestion thread

Postby bozoka45 » Sun May 22, 2005 9:12 pm

Just wanted to start this, thought it could be a good idea. With the new design, I'm sure people have a few suggestions (at least I do :))

A) On the General search page, it says:

Search for General search

Thats silly ;)

B) A "new topic" button at the top of the forum, rather than just at the bottom.
A few new things for the forum as well. A "new reply" button at the top. And There used to be a link at the top of each page that you could click that you bring you from a thread back to the forum, it was something like what's at the bottom of the page now. That would be great if it could be brought back.

Thats all.

Actually, this new theme is taking ALOT of getting used to, and it's only the first day...

From the way the forum tables are linked, to the difficulty in finding the "new post" buttons, I think that ultimately, this makes the forum a bit harder to use...and this is coming from an old post-whore!

Have you considered retaining the original subsilver style, but just fiddling with the CSS? It's a very solid template, and is much more stable for adding potential MODs in the future...

Nevertheless, love the new look!

The site itself took a lot of time. We did look out for help for a forum design and one was actually made, but it didn't suit this site as well as this one. I know that it takes getting used to, I am in the process of doing that myself. As for the subSilver style, we shall see. Perhaps another, more to the old theme will be made avilable for users to choose from their profile pages.

Looks nice!!

But not in Firefox Mac (!?)
It doesn't seem to render correctly with the css'es
Any browser detection?

The old crappy IE (Mac version 5.1) renders it ok but without the submenus.

Safari works great with it.

I'm not on a MAC but I'm using Firefox and the forums are fine. Actually I am loving the clean, non cluttered format...

I also tested Firefox PC and everything looks great.

Strange thing that it shows all ok in Safari and not in Firefox (Mac).
Usually Firefox render pages much better than Safari.

Weird. Can you make a screenshot of it?
I don't have access to any Mac station myself, so I am unable to test it.

Hmm, which version are you using? Does the main page look the same?
It seems that Firefox is not processing any of the site's css coding.

sorry about the delay, i'm rather busy these days :-)

I am using Firefox version 1.0.4

You can send me the css file and i'll try to figure out the problem by testing.
Just reply to your screenshot mail.

Regards.

i would love if the forum template was updated to specify who was online, on every page

Currently Online: Username1, Username2, and # Guests.

i suppose something like that

preferably using the "if logged in" code, so only people registered see it

I'm going to have to vote against that. It is quick and easy to go check who's online, and adding this feature would (I would guess) add more SQL calls - increasing server load for *every* forum user for little real benefit for most of those users, since few really care who is on.
