Initial ToDo list for the New Site with goals

Postby Jackanape » Fri Jan 12, 2007 3:24 pm

With development on 1.25 including support mailing lists, linkbacks, downloads, etc, we need to build a site to accommodate that.

We'll put the todo list here as it is developed:

We need a leader for this project, and people to contribute to the task. There are a lot of us here who are web or graphic designers, so this should be a cinch...it's just the working together part that's hard! But, combining creative visions is a time honored and successful technique in fields such as comics, movies, etc.

I would say there are only three prerequisites:
1) Site must be Coranto Driven, Natch.
2) Site must be built on cross browser compliant code
3) Site must be centered on CSS, so that any changes in the future are easy to accomplish.

Am I missing anything?

Sorry about that one. Seems the site's PHP code makes it impossible to disable to forum without breaking the rest of the site as well.

And we do want people to have access to downloads, documentation etc. I have to figure out another way of doing it.

We can try something else...

You can disable the forum in the ACP and change the lagnuage file to do what you want...

OK, after disabling the board, open up your lang_main.php file.

This is found in the language/english directory...you may have to update any of the other langs that are installed, but I'm a one language man, sorry...

Find:

$lang['Board_disable'] =

And replace the message already there with whatever message you want. Such as redirecting them here, as you did before.

That will solve the problem of closing the forum, but leaving the rest of the site active.

Nope, it won't. Changing lang_main.php was exactly what I did, but it seems that the custom PHP coding around the forum makes everything break if the forum is disabled from the ACP.

I guess the rest of the site design makes use of internal phpBB variables, which aren't initialized when the forum is disabled. And I don't know enough PHP to work my way around it... :?

UPDATE: I went for the simplest solution (replacing index.php in the /forum directory). This isn't optimal as it will still give direct access, say from external links pointing directly at posts or topics, but I think it's the closest I'll get.

And people will hopefully get the point.

Wow--My main board is a heavily modified board that I've been working like a dog for years, and never had any problems like that!! I guess the design of the site took precedent over function...I noticed some small breaks over the last couple of weeks, but nothing to fall over myself about.

Glad you found at least a partial solution...I would take a look at the code and see what we could do, but really, this site has to take precendence...
