reset password

Postby ccunet » Tue Jun 04, 2002 8:38 pm

I need to reset the password on a newspro installation. I found a reference to this on coranto. Is it the same process for newspro?

If not anyone have tips for me?

Thanks

Do you know perl? If so, look around newspro, and write a small script to make a new password and just copy it into the proper place... Other than that, I don't htink so.

simple as a copy & paste

The text below is a "copy - paste" from the official newspro website in the F.A.Q. section.

------------------------------------------------------
Edit nsettings.cgi. Find a line which begins

userdata``x

Look through the contents of this line after the ``x. At one point, you should see your username there. Your username should be followed by something like

~CdhdetwT08ffA~me@email.address~3

(except the long string of letters and numbers will be different, it will contain your e-mail address (or not, if you didn't set one), and the number will be either 1, 2, or 3.) To get your password back, replace the long string of characters (CdhdetwT08ffA in the example above) with

Cd2RIL7FBNbq2

This will change your password to "newspro". Login with your username, using "newspro" as your password, and then go and change your password via User Info.

As we all know, the official newspro website is down. So my question to you is: where did you get this?

Couldn't a copy of the FAQ be posted online without violating any of Elvii' rights?

No, it couldn't, because like the rest of the site it is a copyrighted document.

i read all of your answers and i can't understand why a copy of a paragraph from the original newspro F.A.Q. could make all this argle-bargle.

gmaniac: The reply to ccunet wasn't the problem - I'd consider replying with one faq item to be fair use. (It is not reproducing the entire document without adding value, and courts have suggested that what is important is that the whole work isn't reproduced, and the reproduced portion adds extra value - such as an image search engine reproducing thumbnails of other people's images).

What would be a problem is if (as was proposed in this thread) the FAQ was reproduced whole on someone else's site without prior permission from Elvii.

I'd agree this thread has gone on long enough, so I'm closing it.
