Cannot link into files

Postby shanemckiness » Fri Jan 06, 2006 6:18 am

I am having problems linking into files from 06/2004 to 09/2005, and I cannot figure out why. Can someone help. Is this a server problem, or a coranto problem?

You really need to provide more info than this to expect anyone to be able to help you out...

There is no more information. I have archives set on a per month scale, so there is a page for each month that links into articles for that month. For the first four months, these links don't work. It's wierd. The files exist, the links are correct, but the links to the static files simply don't connect.

http://www.epicsff.com/articles/04/9/my ... /index.php
http://www.epicsff.com/articles/04/8/wh ... /index.php
http://www.epicsff.com/articles/04/7/ra ... /index.php
http://www.epicsff.com/articles/04/6/te ... l/indexphp

These are just for links to 4 articles on each of the months that don't work. These links are the same type as those in other years and months. These files exist. I'm trying to figure out why they are not connecting? They appear to be building, so I doubt it could be coranto, but I really don't know.

This is my archive link file, ..works fine.
Code: Select all
<a href="/articles/archives/ah-archive-12-2005.php">December '05</a> <!--LINK: ah-archive-12-2005.php--> <a href="/articles/archives/ah-archive-11-2005.php">November '05</a> <!--LINK: ah-archive-11-2005.php--> <a href="/articles/archives/ah-archive-10-2005.php">October '05</a> <!--LINK: ah-archive-10-2005.php--> <a href="/articles/archives/ah-archive-9-2005.php">September '05</a> <!--LINK: ah-archive-9-2005.php--> <a href="/articles/archives/ah-archive-8-2005.php">August '05</a> <!--LINK: ah-archive-8-2005.php--> <a href="/articles/archives/ah-archive-7-2005.php">July '05</a> <!--LINK: ah-archive-7-2005.php--> <a href="/articles/archives/ah-archive-6-2005.php">June '05</a> <!--LINK: ah-archive-6-2005.php--> <a href="/articles/archives/ah-archive-5-2005.php">May '05</a> <!--LINK: ah-archive-5-2005.php--> <a href="/articles/archives/ah-archive-4-2005.php">April '05</a> <!--LINK: ah-archive-4-2005.php--> <a href="/articles/archives/ah-archive-3-2005.php">March '05</a> <!--LINK: ah-archive-3-2005.php--> <a href="/articles/archives/ah-archive-2-2005.php">February '05</a> <!--LINK: ah-archive-2-2005.php--> <a href="/articles/archives/ah-archive-1-2005.php">January '05</a> <!--LINK: ah-archive-1-2005.php--> <a href="/articles/archives/ah-archive-12-2004.php">December '04</a> <!--LINK: ah-archive-12-2004.php--> <a href="/articles/archives/ah-archive-11-2004.php">November '04</a> <!--LINK: ah-archive-11-2004.php--> <a href="/articles/archives/ah-archive-10-2004.php">October '04</a> <!--LINK: ah-archive-10-2004.php--> <a href="/articles/archives/ah-archive-9-2004.php">September '04</a> <!--LINK: ah-archive-9-2004.php--> <a href="/articles/archives/ah-archive-8-2004.php">August '04</a> <!--LINK: ah-archive-8-2004.php--> <a href="/articles/archives/ah-archive-7-2004.php">July '04</a> <!--LINK: ah-archive-7-2004.php--> <a href="/articles/archives/ah-archive-6-2004.php">June '04</a> <!--LINK: ah-archive-6-2004.php-->

I just ment that it was a quite vague description of what you had problems with. It is always good to provide as much information as possible, for example giving an URL to a specific page and stating exactly what link on that page you feel is not working and what you had expected the link to be instead...

In fact, if you had done that I am sure you would have spotted the problem yourself. If we use the page below as an example:
http://www.epicsff.com/articles/archive ... 3-2005.php

At the top of that page it has a link to the page below:
http://www.epicsff.com/articles/05/3/li ... /index.php

But take a look at the folder structure for year 2005:
http://www.epicsff.com/articles/05/

Notice that the months folders are created using a two number digit, padded with zero, which isn't what you use for the archive links...

The folder stucture is correct domain.com/year/month/filename/index.php. The month folders are inside the year folders. The problem is, these pages arent opening up in browsers for some reason...

04 --> 06 07 08 09 10 11 12
05 --> 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12
06 --> 01

That is because the URL you are using to call them is using a single digit reference for the month and the directory is named with a leading zero.

http://www.epicsff.com/articles/04/9/my ... /index.php

results in a 404 not found error.

http://www.epicsff.com/articles/04/09/m ... /index.php

links to the page you want.

The only difference is the zero before the 9

This is the same information (stated in a different form) that Parahead posted. It would have taken you less time to check the validity of the answer you got than to post your disagreement with the answer.

Also, your first post did not give me enough info to find this, but the second post did.

As to what is causing the zero to be left off of the URLs on your page I do not know since you don't mention how the URLs are created.

Thanks Dale. You were right on the button. The problem was that out of my many styles, I forgot to change a <field: monthnumber> to a <field: twodigitmonth> I missed it because its a long style.
