I have tried multiple times to download the 1.24 version and the zip file seems to be corrupt when you open the files in Notepad. Anyone else having this problem.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hm no. Tried it just now, and it works perfectly for me. Could you describe what you are doing, please?

Downloading the Stable version

Postby DebK » Sun Dec 04, 2005 5:12 pm

All I am doing is downloading the zip file and when I open any of the files the code all runs together on one continous line.

I just downloaded the beta and all the files the code is on separate lines. But now I am having my server recognize it . I keep getting the 500 Internal Server error: I have tried changing all the attributes to the different options nothing works.

Perl version 5.8.5 on my server with Network Solutions

I read the notes and have the following in my code:

Viewnews.cgi & Coranto.cgi
#!/usr/bin/perl

# Name of style to use if none is set in the url.
my $VNStyle = 'Default News Style';

# Name of template to use if none is set in the url (without .tmpl extension).
my $VNTMPL = 'viewnews';

# END OF SETTINGS

$abspath = '/data/0/0/95/101/95101/user/96506//./cgi-bin/coranto';
# Set the above to the absolute path to Coranto's directory, without
# a trailing slash. Example:
# $abspath = '/absolute/path/to/coranto';

$scripturl = 'http://www.cruenadiancruefest.com/cgi-bin/coranto/coranto.cgi';
# Set the above to the URL to coranto.cgi. Example:
# $scripturl = 'http://www.myserver.com/coranto/coranto.cgi';

I am hoping someone is using Network Solutions and can tell me what could be going wrong. I had to change from Earthklink were everything ran fine.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Wow. You just introduced a totally different problem as an answer to my demand of shedding some light on the first one :shock:

Well - the text being all in one line - Try opening the file in Wordpad instead of Notepad.

As for your setup:
Code: Select all
$abspath = '/data/0/0/95/101/95101/user/96506//./cgi-bin/coranto';

This line looks wrong to me - two /'s in a path will surely give an error

Also, please read this document by Parahead about your 500 errors.

Downloading the Stable version

Postby DebK » Sun Dec 04, 2005 7:02 pm

Sorry about that. When I downloaded the program and used Winzip the coranto.cgi file opens with ASCII characters in Notepad instead of everything looking like this below from the version 1.32

#!/usr/local/bin/perl

# Before attempting to set up this script, please read
# readme.txt, which you should have received along with this!

# EXTRA SERVER INFORMATION
# Coranto tries to determine its path and URL automatically. This works in 90%
# of cases, but some servers aren't cooperative and don't allow this information
# to be found automatically. Though it won't hurt, there's no need to fill this out
# unless you encounter problems.
#
# If you encounter problems (particularly with incorrect URLs, or fatal error messages
# about files not being found), fill in the two variables below.

$abspath = '/data/0/0/95/101/95101/user/96506//./cgi-bin/coranto';
# Set the above to the absolute path to Coranto's directory, without
# a trailing slash. Example:
# $abspath = '/absolute/path/to/coranto';

$scripturl = 'http://www.cruenadiancruefest.com/cgi-bin/coranto/coranto.cgi';
# Set the above to the URL to coranto.cgi. Example:
# $scripturl = 'http://www.myserver.com/coranto/coranto.cgi';
# END EXTRA SERVER INFORMATION

#######
# START (Unless you know Perl, don't change anything after this point.)
#######

# Don't change these numbers! Used internally.
$crcgiBuild = 47;
$crcgiVer = '1.31.2';
$crcgiRC = 0;
$crlangVer = 2;
etc.

Thanks

Downloading the Stable version

Also, I read the article and tried changed the CHMOD attributes and reinstalling. Plus I have another program called Subscriber and the path works with the two /'s.

Any other help would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

So, did you check that line with the two / signs in a row? And also, you can't use Winzip's "view" command, you must first unzip the file and then open it in Wordpad.

Winzip offers and Unzip capability. I was able to unzip the beta version fine but the 1.24 stable version the coranto.cgi file seems corrupt.

Regarding, the absolute path I even contacted by hosting and they said the pathing is correct.

Sorry for all the questions. I never had a problem before when I was with Earthlink.

Once again, any help would be appreciated.

As I said (and I just tried it once more), there is nothing wrong with the 1.24 zip file - it opens up wonderfully for me. Try and extract (unzip) only the file coranto.cgi, and then open it in Wordpad (NOT in notepad!), and see what happens.

Also try replacing:
Code: Select all
$abspath = '/data/0/0/95/101/95101/user/96506//./cgi-bin/coranto';

with

Code: Select all
$abspath = '/data/0/0/95/101/95101/user/96506/cgi-bin/coranto';

inside coranto.cgi.

You could also try leaving the paths blank. The incorrect path's would not be causing a 500 error. You should read the link SrNuspen gave you (with blank paths) then report back if there's still a problem.

Even if SrNupsen has said this already I want to make this clear; the zip-file is not corrupted. However, the textfiles are saved in "Unix style" which makes the end-of-line characters being off if the files are opened in Notepad for example. And yes, this is something that is changed in the 1.32.x series hence you don't experience this there...

In order to help you it is essential that you can get hold of the webservers errorlog to give us something more to work with than the "500 server error"-message which just states that *something* has gone wrong, not *what* has gone wrong...
Yes, I am still around...

I actually had to reinstall every file one by one and after 20 times everything worked. Also, I was able to modify the viewsnew.cgi and coranto.cgi in Wordpag.

Once again, thanks everyone for all your help.
