Sorting by Date

Postby Stoneage » Thu Apr 26, 2007 12:05 pm

I have a schedule of events that I would like to sort by the time of the event, using a 12-hour clock. Such as:

8:00 a.m. - Some Event
8:15 a.m. - Some Event
12:00 a.m. - Some Event
7:00 p.m. - Some Event

I could do this easily if the time were entered as a 24-hour clock (such as 08:00, or 21:00), but that display would not be appropriate for this schedule.

Does anyone know of a way to accomplish this?

Stoneage,

It sounds like you need the addon ChangeDateNew by Parahead. This allows you to alter the date and time of the post.

You can then sort the profile as you wish and display the time using:

<Field: Hour>:<Field: Minute>

Are you currently using a custom field for the time?

Hi, Dale.

It sounds like you need the addon ChangeDateNew by Parahead. This allows you to alter the date and time of the post.

I think with ChangeDateNew the event time would need to be entered in a 24-hour format, which would not be convenient for my client.

Here's what I ended up doing:
Code: Select all
<Field: CustomField_event_time> <Field: CustomField_event_ampm>

I created a separate profile for each event day.

Using an XMultisubmit profile:
The event day (Thu/Fri/Sat) was a radio button selection.
The event time was entered in a text field in 12-hour format (08:00)
The am/pm was a radio button selection.

I used the SortOrders addon to sort first by am/pm, then by time.
Then the FilterbyField2 addon filter the day for the individual profiles.

It works just great.

What I like about Coranto is that there are often two or three ways to achieve the same end. Sometimes I get confused about which way might be the most efficient.
