Permissions Error.. Still??

Postby Coranto_Noob » Fri Oct 26, 2007 1:01 am

Hello everyone! Sorry for my ignorance! :( but I keep getting this error when I try to view my news.txt (http://82.110.105.91/freddiepete.com/cg ... s/news.txt) file.

This is the message I get: "A file permissions error has occurred. Please check the permissions on the script and the directory it is in and try again."

I've messed with the permissions and I still get errors. So I decided to make them all read/write/exec

cgi-bin is set at 777
news (cgi-bin/news) is set at 777
news.txt (cgi-bin/news/news.txt) is set at 777
newsdat.txt (cgi-bin/news/newsdat.txt) is at 777

The includes string that I used is as follows:
<?php include("http://82.110.105.91/freddiepete.com/cgi-bin/news/news.txt");?>

I've tried to take the news and archive folders outside of the cgi-bin (http://82.110.105.91/freddiepete.com/news/news.txt) folder to see if that would work but still no go..

I'm sorry to bring you a simple problem, and I'm sure it's been covered multiple times but it's bugging the heck out of me!! Thank you so much for reading! Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks again!
Freddie :)

Try 755 for your directories (some servers aren't too happy about 777), and don't set your files (news.txt and newsdat.txt) to 777. Try 644 or 666.

Thanks for the help! For some reason it's still not permitting me to view the txt file.. Should I move all of the files outside of the cgi-bin?

Moving your files outside the cgi-bin is definitely worth a try. Also, check your file name; should the space be in there?

Code: Select all
<?php include("http://82.110.105.91/freddiepete.com/cgi-bin/news/news.t xt");?>

(Note: It's 'news.t xt' and not 'news.txt')

Lastly, try including the file using a server path instead of an URL - perhaps your PHP installation is set up to disallow URL includes.
