Modify News Addon Request

Postby Pirate Elf » Tue Aug 26, 2003 8:30 am

First the Old business: I got a job working ALL the time. So I have no time to really post or do anything but sleep and work anymore. Sorry guys I haven't been around giving input and helping out like I was. Today is one of my few days off so.....

Now the New business:
I have had an idea in my mind for awhile now for modify news and I was wondering,
A: Is this possible
B: If not too hard could one of you guru's whip it up
C: If not possible explain why

My Idea: A multi modify option. Instead of going manually through EACH AND EVERY POST is there a way to select mutliple posts and then move them ALL to one single category? or A single category/xms page

I am running a few pages and it's getting a major pain in my rear to manually go through and either A: modify the actual dat, or go through each and every post and set them to the new category.

I am hoping there is a way to modify multiple posts at once (like the multi delete option. )

Let me know guys. I am still around and not dead just work too much.

I'd say possible, not extremely difficult...and it's my first week of classes so I'm going to take it easy on the programming...

I can guarantee it's doable... But as has been said, programmers are lazy.

That and, you can't be positive it'd work in new versions. Although Lawerence could add a hook in ModifyNews, after the if ($in{'delete'}) section, and that'd make one part of upgrade compatibility be ignorable, just it'd mean no backwards compatability.

you could make the addon NOT hook into the modify new routine
and make it's own control center which resembles the modify news page.

that way it'll work in all versions.
that way it'll also be viewable to admins only.
i'm sure u dunwan casual users to shift your entire database categories around.

call the addon shifty or shifter or massMover. heh. i like shifty. cra_shifty.pl meh.

To redo modify news, would be over kill, and would mean the user would have a multiple items modify news and a single items modify news.

no no no. that's not what i meant.
just make a similar interface like that for modify news.
then make it so that the selection and stuff is like "move all selected" to catergory "so-and-so"

simple stuff. and it's just a few lines of for $i {blahblahblah} statements.

Exactly. Just something to change the categories and perhaps the xms figures. A simple drop down box would suffice for me, just the ability to do more than one single post at a time.

Basically like ModCP in the forums. Ability to do one thing to many items. As for Coranto, it could be a normal Modify News page. you select items (just like for deleting) then press a button and a new window opens.

in that new window, you have a full submit news page. but after the field name there is a checkbox.

all the fields are empty, unless all of the selected items have one field value in common, then that field will be filled.

now, if you want to change some values for all of the previously selected items, you choose or enter a new value for the specific field(s) then press the checkbox and submit the form.

then, all of the checked fields new values will be applied to all of the selected items.

fun?
