Using coranto as a photoalbum?!

Postby akarlska » Thu Jul 20, 2006 5:43 pm

I've set up a website using coranto, and I want to ad a photoalbum option for my users. My server does not support NetPBM and they will not install it. The have GD they say, and as far as i have seen there is no coranto addon that suports anything but NetPBM.

My problem is that I really want to have the lates picture added in the photoalbum displayd on the front of my website, and I can't see a solution to what third party programs i might use to integrate into mye site.

Does anyone else have any experience with any third party programs running along side with coranto to manage this task.

Any hint in the right direction will be appriciated.

Do-able...

Hello akarlska

Your photoalbum idea sounds quite do-able using Coranto. It really depends on what exactly you need your photoalbum to do. If your basic need is to just display images then you actually don't need NetPBM (or even GD!) to display your images.

If your need is simple then all you need to do is

  • Install appropriate add ons (upload manager, etc)
  • Create relevant profiles (for headlines and story content)
  • Design templates to show how you want the page to look
  • Use file includes to direct the page to wherever you want images, etc. to appear.
I am assuming you are already familiar with Coranto if not the above might sound like gobbledegook or Greek to you!

Here is a free web album script written in Perl. emAlbum

The free version of this script has no user interface. You can use MultiPart to upload your images. See emAlbum's docs for more info on how to use it.

I use a php image rotating script at the Calumet College Softball site. It will display a random selection from a directory you specify. The thumbnail and large picture on the home page are rotated with this script.

You don't need anything special to simply display the last picture uploaded with Coranto.

Create a profile set to the default sort (newest first)
filter by number set to one
Create an upload field (you need MultiPart for this)
Create a style with:
Code: Select all
<img src="<FilePath: CustomField_your_picture_field>" />

Use SSI to include the file output by the profile where you want the latest picture.

You ca install NetPBM locally and chmod the files: 755

However, there has been some renaming of some libraries so that Corantos functions doesn´t work. A workaround is to rename the apropriate file to the old name.

Do some searching about this, i don´t really remember what files this applies to.

I've moved server, so it's not a problem any more. But thanx!

I create the Picture .php files with a Maginot Static
I create an index file contaning thumbs of all the pics in category with Maginot Sliced
I create an index containg links to all the sliced file with a Maginot Sliced Index file

and it works! :P but...
