Archive drop-down

Postby driv » Wed Feb 08, 2006 11:07 pm

Hi

I have a very long list of archives for a number of subjects.

e.g. articles, press releases, news, etc, etc
each list is several years old.

As you can imagine the archive lists are quite long....
e.g.

September 2005
August 2005
July 2005
June 2005
May 2005
April 2005
March 2005
February 2005
January 2005
December 2004
November 2004
etc.
etc.
etc.
January 2001
December 2000

Is there a way to combine these into a drop-down box so that I could publish it on my home page?

Thanks for reading :)

What does your actual archive style looks like now? I guess having the archive links wrapped around <option> tags in the style and then have the SSI include in turn wrapped in a <select> tag at the sthml page would work just fine?

Hi Parahead
I'm not sure I understand you (sorry).

I only have
Code: Select all
<InsertContent>
to work with as I understand it.

So if I do this...

Code: Select all
<option><InsertContent></option>

I just get the list above but like this

<option>
June 2005
May 2005
April 2005
March 2005
February 2005
</option>

Sorry if I'm being thick!

I think he is refering to a drop-down menu

There are several ways of accomplishing what you want, but the first step is to put all of your archives up as options inside a select statement. If you click the "Drop-down menu" link from the URL I linked to above, you should get some pointers.

Like SrNupsen mention, my idea (and what I thought you where asking?) was how to create a drop down menu, isn't this what you want? Just checking so I am not giving the wrong suggestions here...

Well, you are on the right track sort of. This is what you place in the template, right? You do have a style named "Archive Link Style" at the Administration->Edit News Styles page, correct? This one you modify so each month is encapsulated with the <option> tag. Then in your template you replace the option tag you now have with the select tag instead. You do know your way around HTML and the difference between the two tags, right?

Hey guys, thanks for the help.

Do you know - in all the years I've been using Coranto - I don't think I've ever opened the archive link style!!! (Or, if I'm honest - even been aware of it  )

Well - it works a treat!!!

Hey Parahead - I'm in Stockholm next month - looking forward to visiting your beautiful country :D

Thanks again,
d.

You should really try Oslo, too - I got snow in my underwear from walking 50 meters today

Ahh Parahead, that would be excellent :o

Unfortunately, it's a weekend event :( and I'm going to be involved until the end - as my son will also be taking part in a team event. (Team events always come right at the end!!!)

Thanks for the invite, were it any other time, I would be there with you at the bar - like a shot!!!!

Cheers mate,
d.
