Custom News URLs - Can it be done?

Postby Lamar » Sat Nov 19, 2005 7:30 am

I've been lurking this board for some time and I've also checked the tutorials but I can't seem to find the answer to this question. Is it possible to create custom URLs and filenames for individual static article pages? I know that with the Maginot addon I can get half way there but what I'm looking for still seems out of reach.

What I want is a way to create a url that looks a lot like this:

http://mysite.com/year/month/file-name

Is there a way, with any existing addon, to create a year directory and a month directory (../2005/11/) and then have manually named files built in the appropriate directory depending on the date the file was created? I plan to use apache's multiviews and cut off the file extension as well.

With Maginot, it is indeed possible to use Coranto Fields when you specify tha path where an item should be built. I use this on my own site. The topmost setting of a Coranto profile is the build path. Say you put:

Code: Select all
/path/to/wwwmysitecom/<Field: Year>/<Field: Month>/<Field: TwoDigitDay>-<Field: Newstime>

If you posted something on the 23rd of October, it would then be found at the following URL:

Code: Select all
http://www.mysite.com/2005/October/23-14250893

(the last digits being the item's post time - in order to avoid that Coranto tries to create several files with the same name.

You can ofcourse experiment with what field(s) you want to use in your path - even create your own ones - but be careful so that all files get truly unique names.

Thanks for the quick reply. I can't believe that after all the reading I've done in the last couple of days on Coranto, I completely overlooked that the user has the ability to use field output tags inside fields. =/
