View for printing

Postby powerkor » Sat Sep 10, 2005 11:44 pm

Just wanna know the best way to impelment a system in which the user can view the unstylized, for print version of the post. Any ideas on how to do this let me know.

I have most posts linked to a magnot static file and i want that file to link to an unformatted one.

This really isn't a Coranto question. Yes, it is possible to create a separate profile and use a different style to create 'printer friendly' version of your pages but the best way is to use CSS.

Here are some links to get you started:

I am sure that you can find much more information using your favorite search engine or that other users here will add their favorite links on the subject.

My 'favorite tip' on the subject is to use viewnews.cgi for the printerfriendly version. Presenting the majority of the output through static files are good, but the printerfriendly version is probably not going to get that much clicks so to save some disc viewnews.cgi is the choice. I use this approach and have modified the Standard profile and Style to be printerfriendly, so just calling viewnews.cgi with a newsitems id presents that version, like this instead of the static version.

But as Dale Ray points out, the actual design of the printer friendly version isn't a Coranto issue...
Yes, I am still around...

Just wanted to throw in:

An additional bonus is that once you use viewnews.cgi ONLY for your printer-friendly pages, you can simply use the ClickCount addon to fetch the number of times people have printed out your articles (I do this myself).
