Linking Headlines

Postby Kaeroll » Sun Aug 28, 2005 7:36 pm

Hi there,
Currently building my friend's site for him using Coranto. The site will have reviews, articles, and so on on it and I'm using Coranto to submit them. He wants an index page with article names and summaries linking to the articles. I've managed this pretty well I think, with one hitch.
I use Coranto to make the link put the newsid into the address bar under the variable "id", and then use my limited php knowledge to get that id and include the appropriate article using viewnews.cgi, which I've never used before. So you get a link like so:
Code: Select all
http://simulate-it.co.uk/template.php?a=sc4&s=guides&id=EEkVkVVAVkcRMvTvei

Using viewnews.cgi on its own and calling that news ID, it works fine, but when I use it through php it doesn't. Go to that URL above to see what I mean. The IDs are identical - can anyone give me a hand?
Apologies if there's not enough information in this post, I'll post more if needed.
Thanks
Kaeroll

Thanks - been fiddling around with it while waiting for a reply, and I think I cracked it. May have been the php include interfering, as when I put the viewnews url into a variable and then included that it worked :?

Thanks for your reply, though, that method is far more efficient

So instead of having ../viewnews.cgi?id=EEkllFFAkVnntMPfjJ, you modified the code to ../viewnews.php?id=EEkllFFAkVnntMPfjJ? Are you willing to share the code? I've been searching for a PHP port, because it looks odd to have a PHP page leading to a CGI page. I am like an extremely beginner in PHP coding and the way to make an output viewnews.php file is always a great idea.

Thanks.
