snip into description Meta tag

Postby funnytoy » Sun Jul 31, 2005 8:49 pm

I wanted to always have the first 60 characters of my news in the description Meta tag and have tried to put the <Snip 60: Field: Text> just like this:

<META NAME="description" CONTENT="<Snip 60: Field: Text>">

but unfortunately it doesn't work.

Is there a way to achieve this?

Thanks for your help and many thanks to all of you who make this forum so interesting.

"doesn't work" is quite vague, could you please elaborate? Where do you use the above code and for which type of profile? What exactly isn't working and what does the output look like?

Do you by any chance use templates? If so, be aware that field codes don't work in templates - you'd wan to use them in your styles instead.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes I use templates and I have tried to include the code <Snip 60: Field: Text> into the meta tag description in the <head> of my template like this:
<META NAME="description" CONTENT="<Snip 60: Field: Text>">
But when I look at the source code of my maginot html file the 60 characters of my story are not there.

How can I manage this with styles?

Since I guess you use a Maginot Static Profile, you could place all the tags you currently have in your template within the style instead and only have a small "empty" template which contains a sinlge <Field: Content> tag.

Thanks a lot for your prompt reply Parahead. I'll try this, at least when I'll be able to do...
I'm coming back from holidays and imagine my bad surprise when I discovered that 4 of my websites hosted on the same server vanished. It seems that my webhost went bankrupt and the servers have been shut down without warning. I'm not even able to backup my datas. It's a horrible situation to say the least!
