link to separate article but newest on front page?

Postby arvin » Wed Jul 20, 2005 8:53 am

Hello,

I'm new to the forums, but I'd used newspro since way back in 2001. This is my first time using Coranto and so far it's been a mix of nostalgia and neurosis as I find myself relearning a lot of stuff I'd forgotten.

My question is this. I'm creating an animated webcomic site (http://alivejournal.greasypigstudios.com) and I want the index page to contain the latest entry. Then I want a drop-down menu (as you can see on the site) that will link to the previous individual entries (using the headlines script).

I'd like to use the viewnews script to do the invididual entries but if I use a server side include on the index page it shows all of the entries one after the other. To stop that I run a number filter of 1, but then only the latest entry is shown in the dropdown menu. I'd really prefer to not have to use the archive function but I don't know how to go about it. Thanks!

No problem - just set up one profile for each "bunch" of news. You'll need one profile to display the latest item on your index page (set the filter by number to 1). Then another profile to create the content for your drop-down menu.

You'll also need two styles - one to go with your first profile, and one to go with your second. No need to use Coranto's internal archive function - you'll be more in control using a separate profile.

There's plenty of info on how to set this up in the Help section. Good luck, and ask again if something's unclear!

Woo! It worked! Took a while for me to figure out and I'm not exactly sure yet whether or not I did it the way you suggested (I used two categories and two profiles), but I really appreciate the help!

Two categories and two profiles sounds just like the way I would do it. Glad you got it working, because...
