Custom order of news

Postby TBloodfist » Mon Jun 27, 2005 1:20 am

As always, it is me thinking outside of the box :)

Would it be possible to sort the output of elemenents by "Order" which can be modified directly on the modified news page. (ie - clicking "move element up" or "move element down" buttons.
For example: you have 3 announcements on your site, but you don't want to order them by date. To decide the order, you visit the modify news page.

Thanks!

Sure, somethign like that would work for 1, 2, 3, or 4 items, but how about 25? Do you really want to remember IDs of 25 items, and try to make sure there is no doubles? ..

I understand what you want but there exists no addon like this currently. Just thinking loud here, but using the same technique that the last addon NiNjA pointed you towards it would be possible to place up/down buttons (and also a position field for quick move of an item many steps) on the modify news and use the 'position' field for the SortOrders addon to sort by. Don't know if you have Perl skills to create such an addon?
Yes, I am still around...

I actually accomplished something to this effect that used PHP, the SQL addon, and Javascript that could probably be converted into an addon. I'll look into it.
