Does an addon like this exist? (user profile)

Postby Sageice » Sun Apr 17, 2005 11:30 am

I want it so when one of the writers on my site post news a link with their name will be there and will take visitors to a page with that writers profile and a list of their news/articles.

Also I would like to do the same for games, so if an article is about a certain video game or developer it there will be a link to all of the news about that game or an info page for the developer or game. http://www.planetgamecube.com/ has a system kind of like this.

There is an addon called "SUP beta 1" in the addon section which partly does this, at least regarding to the documentation, I haven´t used it myself. Also, it is possible to use the Maginot addon and create a Sliced Profile which slices on the User. That way you will end up with one page for each staffmember with the newsitems he/she has written.

I would say that a Maginot Sliced Profile would be your choice again... Create a customfield which is dropdown box (developer), then you use that field to slice on...
Yes, I am still around...

That one is designed to create a page for each user with their submissions it's not really one that allows for a users profile/resume to be attached or linked from their submission. (I am rather flattered that you thought of it though!)
  • ProDefault - Change some defaults for new profiles.
  • BackMail - Have your news backup e-mailed to you.
Get them from Royalridge Coranto Page

I knew it wasn't a perfect match, but it is the only Maginot sliced profile case study there is. The fact that you just happen to be slicing on User was a bonus.

The community generally and I specifically would benefit greatly if you would create a couple more similar exercises using Maginot. In fact, if you willing to set them set them up, keep some simple notes on how you did the exercise and give me access to the admin, I will help produce tutorials. I need the practice and have some ideas if you are up for it. Let me know and I could get started later this week.

Per your PM -
I didn't feel it was necessary as I felt that anyone who has worked with Coranto in any depth will know...

That's just the problem. There are lots of use who don't find a lot of this self-evident. The people who have a programming background and/or have worked with Coranto a long time don't need the tutorials as much as us noobs do. The more explicit you can be, the less confused we are. Don't be afraid that you might be talking down to us. I'd much rather have to wade through a bit of a rehash of something I am already comfortable with than find myself confused as to how I got somewhere.
