Item Counter Tutorial - MultiPage Headlines

Postby Dale Ray » Sun Jul 04, 2004 8:24 am

I have written a tutorial that details how to use perl code to implement a counter in a Coranto Style. Subjects covered are:

Start and end tags to enclose a group of items
Using a counter to create links to static pages created by the MultiPage addon
Using variables created in PerlCode in your style
Building styles that can be reused by multiple profiles

You can read the tutorial at:

html formatted - broken in sections

http://www.corantodemo.net/count/countitems.shtml

Full article - one html page

http://www.corantodemo.net/count/countitems.html

As always comments on content, errors, and corrections are welcome.

Great work! :-D

We really need people like you that puts together documentation that can be understod by anybody of how different things can be achived. So I am sorry if I but in and confuse anyone by providing some small alternative ways of doing things you describe since the documentation work just fine. I am not really giving critisism to the actual documentation, just provide links to more info in the subject... ;-)

Anyway, I thought I would drop a link to a one-line-counter.

Not exactly the same subject, but close, is the discussion on how to start/end code *between* newsitems where you have participated. I don´t know, maybe that info could be included into the documentation?
Yes, I am still around...

Parahead,

I added a section with links to those two topics.

Thanks for looking the doc over. I was at the limit of my knowledge explaining some of the perl stuff. If you see any areas where I could be clearer let me know.

This looks great indeed! I would very much like to post it at the Coranto Factory, if you would permit me to? If it's OK with you, can you mail me the documents (so I'll remember it more easily)?

The HowTo on Using Item Counters in Coranto Styles has been slightly updated. No large revisions, just some minor tweaks. You can view a list of revisions here.

Thank you very, very much for this.

I have been struggling with how to create headlines for MultiPage profiles, now, thanks to you I have just set it all up and got it live in about 5 minutes.

I cannot tell you how happy this has made me. :) :D
