Calendar template(s)

Here is a challenge for you experts:

Create a template set to use Coranto to display a calendar in:

Month Grid
Week Grid
x number of weeks grid

Have the items for the date link to the fullnews story.

Clicking on the date will open an expanded list of that days events.

Make it easy to select which fields are used to generate the items shown in the grids.

Use an external style sheet to control appearance.

Make it easy to insert custom header and footers.

I am sure I am leaving features out, but this will do for a start.

I know that there are a number of calendar scripts available. I use one on a site I maintain along with Coranto. I find that a lot of entries have to be duplicated. I was hoping to just use Coranto to do it all.

As far as previous discussion, they all dead ended with no resolution, other than it would be too hard.

I was merely hoping the challenge would goad someone who is better at this than me to try it.

From the previous discussions I did find there seemed to be interest in this.

lol, no its quite possible, make coranto build db sort of php code and then let php handle it all.

well, coz I dont know perl so well. anyway, the script I showed, it is good, very good. and could be used with other stuff.

if ya want, I can put something with php up today.

Here is what I am doing at a site for high school sports.

I have 17 calendars that are used for each sports games, matches, practices, meetings, etc.

The information form these can be displayed on a single calendar (unless it is marked private).

I am using a perl calendar script for this.

After the event is over, I do a news story about the same event in Coranto. Much of the information has to be entered twice.

If I could do the calendar with Coranto, I could save double entry. Using a single application makes maintenance easier also. Coranto is more flexible and easier to modify than the calendar script I am using.

It could be done with Coranto, but why? Why not just use Invision Board (forum software) - it has a built-in portal for news postings, and a very robust calendar as well.

Not to mention that you've also got a pretty extensive commenting system there as well

I think something like that would suit your needs better than Coranto, plus they just released v. 1.2 which is a final version.

I found a free perl script for dynamically generating a calendar that uses a simple delimited text file for the events database. Coranto can easily create the file that the calendar script uses.

I set up a profile for the categories I want on the calendar and then created a style that creates the file in the correct format.

The script is called smcCal and is available at:

The script was very easy to set up. You can see the calendar it creates from a Coranto generated data file at:

The script can also be called with SSI and can display x days of events or a specific month in another page.

I have checked how the calendar looks in Firebird, Opera, and IE on Windows. If anyone sees any display problems on another OS/Configuration please e-mail me. (Trying to stay on topic here)
