splitting articles in more than one page..

Postby funkoolow » Mon Mar 11, 2002 4:49 pm

hey guys, i wonder how can I split my long articles, published with coranto, in more than a single one page, obtaining something like a link "page [NUMBER]" at the bottom of every page after a tot of characters...

clear enough? maybe something like that is already present and i just cannot understand it from the description? :)

thanx anyway :)

I think the Maginot Line addon is what you want there. Download it.

Plush sadly left our community a long time ago. Lawrence posted in these forums that Maginot had been opened for modifications, but I haven't heard this myself so don't know what the source of that info was.

That said, how hard is it to create a new Maginot profile that uses split instead of static?

It is true dragon.
i came from the Coranto forums from an open discussion a few weeks ago.

I had also listed a number of bugs, and improvements to Maginot.... Probably will start working on those sometime....

* Tickit!, Javascript News Tickers/Faders for Coranto!

I don't think you need maginot.

Postby Xzyon » Mon Mar 11, 2002 9:56 pm

hey, I don't think you need maginot to do that. I believe you do it with a command named "Snip" And you enter the snip in the headlines, let's say, and then a link: "View Full Article" or something like that that takes you to the full article.

The thing is i forgot how to do that. Check in the "Others" or "Q&A" Sections of http://Coranto.Sardonica.net

(BTW, someone correct me if i'm wrong about snip).

Sorry, but Snip is not the answer here. What Snip does is strip out all HTML, and then cut off all characters after the Nth character - which is useful if you want a brief news snippet and a link to a full news item.

A Maginot Split Static profile creates a news item that spans several HTML pages, with the page split locations chosen by the user. This is useful if you post very long news items and don't want them to be on a large single page, but instead to be on several shorter pages...

Yes, it is open source. :D I announced on the Coranto forums that Maginot Line can be modified and redistributed with the following conditions:

1) don't remove any features. hide them / disable them only.
2) don't remove any hooks, but you're free to add more hooks.
3) leave plushpuffin's name in the credits
4) add your name / contact info to credits along with list of changes
5) include a readme with a list of changes you have made
6) comment your changes in the source

most of these stipulations are not for the benefit of the users, but just to make it easier on other Coranto addon authors, so I hope everyone understands and abides by these rules.
