Simple Question

Postby InsaneTice » Tue Sep 17, 2002 8:19 am

I have a really simple question. I am using SSI "virtual includes" on my website and I'm attempting to save a lot of space, but I'm having a problem. I have a lot of different directories and I'm trying to use the includes to link to one set of files. I have the main files in my CGI-BIN, and I'm trying to link to them from a separate directory, example:

Directory: http://website.com/ads/
Files: http://website.com/cgi-bin/files.html

Is it possible in the includes to go up a directory and link to the files since you can use absolute paths? I know someone knows this answer so I'll thank you ahead of time.

Well firstly it might be worth pointing out that it's usually not a good idea to have .html pages under the /cgi-bin directory structure. Some servers allow it, but it's not encouraged.

Secondly, you can go "back" a directory with: ..

eg.

"../ads/"

Or better still, you might be able to use:

"/ads/"

(the / at the start of that one means to start at your home directory and go from there)

Okay, I had been searching around and I found that and that hadn't been working for me. So I wanted to know if having a "BASE HREF" code on the page would change how the include would work.

Also, if you're on AIM, would you mind IMing me at InsaneTice so I could talk directly to you?

Thanks again.
